"He's A Pirate"

As if running a blog about the The Pirates of the Caribbean weren't nerdy enough, I now listen to the sound track music!  It's actually loads of fun!  Play it anywhere you go and you feel like you are actually in the movies.  Right now, I only have the soundtracks to Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and At Worlds End.  I have listened to the whole album thuroughly and I will get the other two albums, or at least some of the songs soon.  The first sound track has fifteen songs, some of which are as short as a minute and half or up to almost five minutes.  The At Worlds End soundtrack has more of a variety. While it's only thirteen songs, the shortest is a minute and a half and the longest is almost eleven minutes!  And yes, I have to admit I've listened to them all.  DOn't judge until you've actually listened to them, because they are really cool!  So you should really buy them.  

I don't know how many of you actually buy your songs legally off iTunes or wherever like I do, but if you are a punk and dowload them illgally, you should really make an excpetion for this.  This stuff is really worth paying money for.  Plus, wouldn't you agree the people who make the Pirates of the Caribbean deserve it?  Just buy the whole album and you'll save money like I did!  Now, since I haven't listened to all of the music just yet, it would be rather dificult for me to tell you which songs are my favorite.  So an official favorite list will be posted later, but in the mean time I'll share with you which songs have stood out to me.  The cool thing about the soundtracks is that you hear certain parts and you can just totally tell where in the movie it comes from.  When you've seen the movies as many times as I have (which is doubtful unless you run a blog too, in which case you should totally share about with me), you can almost quote the scene!  
For example, the first song of the first soundtrack is called "Fog Bound".  There is a part where you can totally just imagine Elizabeth looking through the fog and seeing the Black Pearl and finding Will's body.  Also, the next song, "The Medallion Calls" which I am actually listening to right now, there is a certain part where you just know that the gret Captain Jack Sparrow is sailing triumphantly in his little row boat.  The music is so magnetic and admittedly epic because it just sounds like Jack!  Then the tone completely shifts to a solemn yet honorable tone when Jack sails by the hanged pirates and lowers his hat in honor.  Don't beleive me? Then listen for it yourself.  Also, throughout the soundtrack you hear the super dramatic music that is usually played during some dramatic scene between Will and Elizabeth.  There is also the super classic just epically awesome music that plays during the credits.  It's kind of like the theme song.  If you were to recongize any of the music, it would be this one.  It's called "He's A Pirate".  It is one of my favorite just because it is so energetic and happy.  Whenever I hear it I think of all of Jack's totally epic sword fights.  Okay, now we are jumping to the third movie soundtrack.  

It's not that I didn't like the second, but the msuic didn't strike me as as epic as the first and third.  It's starts out with "Hoist the Colors".  If you weren't aware, that's the name of the song that the prisoners who are about to be executed sing in the very opening song.  It starts out with the little kid singing and then they all join in until they hang.  It's a bit creepy because it actually has words.  The little kid on death row is singing, and you here the rattling of their chains.  Pretty intense.  Then there is "Singapore", which doens't have any words, but you can still just tell right away that they are in Singapore (even if you didn't read the name of the song).  I actually like this soundtrack more than the first.  If you've read some of my other posts regrading the Parlay scene later in the movie, you'd know about what I think of the music that plays when Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Beckett, Jones, and Barbossa all walk along the side bank: It's like rock music!  That's in the song "Parlay", which cracks me up every time.  Two songs later is "What Shall We Die For" is my all time favorite.  It's during the time when Elizabeth presents her speech to the Brethren Court and they all join together.  It is actually so epic.  You can hear all the pirates cheering in unison and you just know that they are going to kill it.  I must admit, certain parts give me chills, that's how nerdy I am.  The song after it is also pretty epic, "I Don't Think Now's the Best Time".  It's while they are fighting my favorite battle!  Now go buy the soundtracks if you haven't already and report back to here with your opinions?  Am I a nerd? Am I correct?  Am I both?

"You Knew My Father"

#Flashbackfriday!  Ok, not really.  This isn't twitter or instagram.  (Speaking of which you should really follow us at @snippetsofjack).  Regardless, we are still going back in time to when Will didn't know who his father was.  Jack breaks the news to him in a rather harsh way in The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.  They miraculously make it off of Tortuga alive on thier own ship, the HMS Interceptor.  Men really bond when they are forced to man a whole ship on their own.  Will: "When I was a lad living in England, my mother raised me by herself.  After she died, I came out here, looking for father."  That's actually when we first see Will.  He's a little boy on a ship with his father's piece of gold around his neck.  The Black Pearl under Barbossa attacked his ship on the way out to find it, but ended up leaving with out it, not knowing Will had it.  
Jack is really intirgued by Will's life story, NOT.  Jack: "Is that so?"  But Will isn't willing to drop the subject.  Will: "My father, Bill Turner?  It was only after you learned my name that you agreed to help.  Since that's what I wanted, I didn't press the matter.  I'm not a simpleton, Jack.  You knew my father."  No, I am your father!  Heehee.  Imagine being the son of Jack Sparrow.  Wouldn't that be nice.  Seeing as he can't get out of this one, Jack reluctantly carries on the conversation.  Jack: "I knew him.  Probably one of the few who knew him as William Turner.  Everyone else called him 'Bootstrap' or 'Bootstrap Bill'."  Will is confused: "Bootsrap?"  What kind of a nickname is that?  It's a pirate one I tell you!  Jack: "Good man.  Good pirate.  I swear, you look just like him."  It's so like Jack to add that little phrase after it to try to lighten the mood.  
Now it's Will's turn to not really feel it.  Will: "It's not true.  He was a merchant sailor."  THe irony here is great.  Boy who hates pirates is actually the son of one!  I wonder if Beckett is the son of a pirate too.  Just kidding, we alreayd discussed how his father was a jerk buisness dude.  Will: "A good, respectable man who obeyed the law."  How exactly would ynou know.  Unfortunately, you have no memory of him.  Jack rolls his eyes in annoyance.  I'm really feeling the friendship bonding here.  Jack: "He was a bloody pirate, a scallywag."  Considering Will is actually currently teamed up with a pirate, I'm not so sure how hte cant talk about how pirates should be avoided at all costs.  Will just takes things to a whole new level.  He pulls out his sword angrily and points it at Jack, who is actually steering the ship.  Kinda dangerous . . . 
Will: "My father was not a pirate!"  Jack is just exasperated.  Jack: "Put it away, son.  It's not worth you getting beat again."  Will: "you didn't beat me.  You ignored the rules of enagement.  In a fair fight, I'd kill you."  It's true.  Will certainly does have quite the skill with a blade.  Jack: "That's not incentive for me to fight fair, is it?"  Another true point to Captain Jack Sparrow!  Jack is done with this and would like to get to Tortuga quickly without any more interruptions so he turns the wheel abruptly which makes the mast turn sharply, hitting Will and making him dangle over the open sea.  Jack is going to assert his power once and for all!  Jack: "As long as you're just hanging there, pay attention.  The only rules that really matter are these: what a man can do and what a man can't do.  For instance, you can accept that your father was a pirate and a good man, or you can't.  But pirate is in your blood, boy, so you'll have to square with that someday."  
Oh turst me he does.  Especially when he bcomes a pirate and ends up meeting his pirate father!  Then they end up both being pirates together on the Flying Dutchman, but in the mean time Will is still in denial.  Jack: "Now, me, or example, I can let you drown, but I can't bring this ship into Tortuga all by me onesies.  Savvy?  So."  He uses the wheel to bring Will back on board.  Will falls on his back onto the deck.   Jack puts his sword out above Will's chest.  Jack: "Can you sail under the command of a pirate?"  He flips the sword around so that he is holding the blade (ouch) and the handle is extended towards young Turner.  Will timidly accepts the sword.  Will: "Tortuga?"  Will: "Tortuga."  Because you're not really a pirate until you've enjoyed the "beauties" of the not-so-lovely port of Tortuga.  

"Soneome make a note of that Man's Bravery"

How much do you know about Theodore Groves?  You actually probably know a lot more about him than you think you do.  He's a very minor character but he actually appears in all of the movies.  He's a member of the British Royal Navy and serves first under Commodore Norrington, the under Beckett, and then under Barbossa.  He's one of the few characters who are actually in all for or the movies.  A lot of the dialogue that you remember between Jack Sparrow and Navy members, Norrington and Navy members, and almost any one and Navy members involve him.  He actually has some of the most classic lines of the series.  For example, when Jack and Will first work together to take the Interceptor out of the bay, they land on the boat called the Dauntless.  However, through quite a bit of genius scheming, they find themselves upon the Interceptor, an even better boat.  Pretty impressive if I do soay so myself.  

Out of anger, Norrington commands them to open fire on the ship.  Norrington: "Set topsails and clear up this mess."   Groves: "With the wind at quarter astern, we won't catch them."  Norrington: "I don't need to catch them, just get them in range of the long nines."  But Groves still doesn't understand why he would have them open fire on their own ship.  Norrington: "I'd rather see her at the bottom of the ocean, than in the hands of a pirate."  Pretty spiteful words coming out of the commodores mouth, but Groves is still obligated to obey them.  However, Jack is too quick for them and disables the rudder chain so the ship can't turn around.  Seems like that man just thinks of everything.  Earlier, Norrington had remarked after seeing Jack "trying" to set sail on the Dauntless that "That is without doubt the worst pirate I have ever seen." 
Ironically enough, in the end it was actually Norrington who got tricked at Jack who sailed away happy.  Upon realizing what was happening, Groves just chuckles and says: "That's got to be the best pirate I've ever seen."  Norrington: "So it would seem."  Norrington definitely isn't about to let Jack and Will get away with this.  Now, to be fully honest, I'm not actually all that sure if Groves was in the second movie but seeing as he was in all the others, I guess you could assume that he was also in Dead Man's Chest but there wasn't much Navy action going on then and he had no real lines so I suppose I could be wrong.  Either way, he was in At Worlds End with quite a few other significant lines that you will probably know when you read them.  Jack does another one of his super genius yet impromptu escapes where he thinks of just about EVERYTHING.  
After a meeting with his long time enemy, Jack needs a quick and easy way to get off of the Endeavor and onto his own ship.  He uses a cannon to blast him off one ship and onto another.  "And that was without even a single drop of rum." Beckett, like Norrington, isn't ready to let him get away that easily.  Beckett: "Signal the Dutchman to track down Sao Feng. We follow the Pearl. How soon can we have the ship ready to pursue?"  Then the entire mast of his ship just goes crashing down, as if on cue.  Beckett just bows his head in disappointment.  He should have seen that coming.  Groves: "Do you think he plans it all out, or just makes it up as he goes along?"  It's funny because pretty much the whole audience is wondering the same question: how does Jack manage to do everything so crazily yet so perfectly?  Beckett is just so upset about the ship yet Groves is analizing Jack's actions.  

Groves stays on the Endeavor until it is sunk by the Pearl and the Dutchman at the end of the movie, killing Beckett.  As they are being attacked, it's Groves who is desperately screaming at Beckett for orders.  Groves: "Orders?! Orders, sir?!"  Becket just stares of blankly until finally telling them to abandon ship.  He must have made it out just in the nick of time because Groves is back in On Stranger Times.  This time, he takes orders from Barbossa.  He's Barbossa's right hand man and always seems to be around him asking for orders.  He takes Gibbs away, he defends the men who are potentially dying from a mermaid attack, and he keeps his job until his death.  He unties Barbossa when he's tied up to a palm tree at the Spanish camps and always is questioning where the captain is going, perhaps still suspicious of his old pirating ways.  

He is eventually shot at the Battle for the Fountain of Youth.  His final words came as he held up the Union Jack claiming the Fountain for England.  "This land is hereby forever claimed in the glorious name of His Majesty, King George—"  Then he is shot by the Spaniard and of course we never hear about him again.  He gets a few second of glory after his death though.  Spaniard: "Someone make a note of that man's bravery."  It's funny how someone who is actually in so many scenes can go by unnoticed.  Regardless, I still really appreciate his character for truly understanding the craziness that is Captain Jack Sparrow.

"Reason's got nothing to do with it."

While Jack gets most of the hillarious lins of the serieis, all of his silly expressions were made on purpose, since he is pretty much the most outrageous characeter.  How many of you have just bursted out laughing at his lines or faces?  I know I can't be the only one.  How many of you are also aware that I love to poke fun of Elizabeth?  Well, the funny thing about her and Will is that they don't always mean to make these faces, but somehow they always do.  I've seen the movies so many times and have gone through countless photos from them.  I've pulled together a few of the most hillarious, imprompt expressions of theirs that I've ever seen.  In no particular order, here they are:

In The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Elizabeth is not shy with her expressions around Barbossa apparently.  In fact, she attempts to kill him by shoving a butter knife into his chest.  Ew.  What's even grosser is that then he pulls it out of his torso and it's dripping with blood (which to be quite honest is rather fake looking).  This just totally freaks out Elizabeth, but she hasn't really seen much of the pirating world yet.  The gore and her expressions only get worse from here!

As we just discussed, Jack is a bit loony.  Will's trying to get to the bottom of his bizaireness by asking Gibbs what happened when Jack was marooned on the island alone.  After hearing that Jack went three days with no food or drink, Will thinks he's come down to it.  Will: "So that's the reason for all the . . ."  Gibbs: "Reason's got nothing to do with it."  Will pretends to be crazy old Jack again, but even like that Will can't nearly capture the amazingness of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Isn't this rather convinient? There's a picture of both lovers looking equally as funny from The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.  Will really needs to comb his hair and is in utter shock.  Elizabeth on the other hand just looks like she's going to throw up. If I am correct, they are trying to figure out what to do about the fact that Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman are out to get them.  Not good.

As I also stated earlier, Elizabeth is not good at masking her disgust for certain actions.  As the kraken attacks his own ship, The Black Pearl, Jack hops in a row boat and tries to make an easy escape, which flat out annoys Elizabeth.  Luck for her, Jack's compass helps him find what he really wants most, and that's to help save his friends and the Pearl, so he comes back.  This look was really in vain.

Not only is she bold with her expressions, but also her words.  This picture from The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End captures both of these!  She angrily yells at Sao Feng when they first meet.  Elizabeth: "You are Saob Feng, the pirate lord of Singapore.  You command in an age of piracy where bold captains sailr free waters.  Where waves aren't measured in feet, butas increments of fear, and those who pass the test become legend.  Would you have that erea come to an end on your watch?  The mos tnotorious pirates from around the world are uniting against our common enemy, and yet you sit here cowering in your bathwater!"  Elizabeth says it how it is.  Now, if you want to check out more photos from the movies, follow us on instagram and twitter @snippetsofjack.  We've got a ton!  And if you have some that you havne'ts een up on this website, hashtag us and we'll be sure to check it out, or comment the link to it, or email us at parsley.parsnip@gmail.com  We would love to see them!

"Every man worth his salt. And crazy to boot."

If you look up above this text on the screen, you'll see that here on this awesome website, we are devoted to Captain Jack Sparrow, but we are also devoted to his "totally awesome crew".  So, here we are, a post totally about Jack Sparrow's Crew, at least in the context of the people who man the Black Pearl under Jack's command during the movie series.  We all know, that of course, the original crew mutinied him and served under Barbossa and some still serve under Jack, but that's not the point.  We will be discussing the crew that he picked up from Tortuga with Will and Gibbs in Curse of the Black Pearl.   

 So there is Cotton, who Jack addresses first, standing on the dock of.  Jack: "You sailor!  Do you have the courage and fortitude to follow orders and stay true in the face of danger and almost certain death.  MR. COTTON!  Answer man!"  Of course, being mute and not having a tongue makes it rather difficult for him to answer.  Probably not a good start for Cotton, but he does prove himself as he stays on the crew for the rest of the series, always loyal to Jack. 

And then he meets Anamaria next, who of course slaps him.  Will: "I suppose you didn't deserve that one either."  Jack: "No, that one I deserved."  She then rants on about how he stole her ship and how she needs it back.  Jack then promises her another ship.  She must have eventually gotten that ship because we don't see her on the crew past the first movie.  Jack's crew also includes some other interesting characters like Joshamee Gibbs; his extremely loyal first mate.  
Gibbs sticks with Jack through out all the of his crazy escapades and leads the crew with a calm and steady hand. Plus his mutton chops rock! Also included in Jack's crew is Will Turner. 
Will only teamed up with Jack to rescue his damsel in distress Elizabeth Swann but he quickly became a vital part of the crew.  When the crew had been gathered and introduced Jack, they all look ok to Jack i guess! Gibbs has high expectations of them :"Feast your eyes, Captain. All of them, faithful hands before the mast. Every man worth his salt. And crazy to boot." Well lets hope they pack their courage and fortitude, Cause they're gonna need it to last a voyage with Jack...During this voyage after surviving storms and their pirating duties of looting ship and who knows what else (to Jack's great pleasure) they catch up to Jack's rightful ship currently captained by Hector Barbossa The Black Pearl.  Jack and Will head in to Isla de Muerta leaving Gibbs in commanded with one order: "Keep to the Code"  When Will returned from his little jaunt on the island with Jack accompanied not by Jack but by Elizabeth Swann; Gibbs was forced to follow Jack orders but pirate fans that is a story for another time....

"Why Thank Ye Jack"

It seems as though most of our posts in one way or the other involve Jack the Monkey.  Well this one is no exception.  But this time we are going to talk about the "actor" who plays him, actually more like actress because the monkey is a girl, acting as a guy.  I don't know if you've ever really thought about it much, but that monkey dose A LOT of things throughout the series.  I beleive he is played by different monkeys throughout the series, but this post will be mainly pertaining to Curse of the Black Pearl.  Jack was played by actually two capuchin monkeys, according to IMBD, one was a female named Tara and the other a male named Levi.  When you think about it, Jack is actually quite the villian, carrying out all of Barbossa's taks and keeping an eye out for any threats to his master's saftey. Ursula Brauner was the animal trainer for the movie.  

Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa):  "The monkey is actually the smartest person in the film I think because he never looses sight of the gold.  Everyone else has human frailty, trial, and jealousy, but the monkey knows we have to get each and every last medallion back into that case."  That's rather true, because the monkey is always pointing out helpful stuff that Barbossa or his crew are too dumb to notice.   Apparently, monkeys always want to feel safe, which I supppose is dificult sitting on the sholder of a man who is always sreaming or sword fighting.   

That's the reason for Jack's constant head motions, he's looking around for any sign of danger.  So they had to make it every clear to the monkeys that Rush wasn't out to get hikm or boss him around.  Rush insisted that the monkey stand on his left sholder (right to the audience) because he beleived that the audience always looks at the screen from left ot right, kinda like a book.  
Rush wanted to make sure the cute yet evil little monkey did not steal his spotlight, especially when he was in scenes with Keira Knightley (Elizabeth) otherwise he thought he would go completely unoticed!  Poor guy.  Haha, it's like the monkey is his costar, because he kinda is.  Johnny Depp: "I like his work very much.  It's, ah, you know he's kinda a runegate."  Now, kinda like a child, the monkey can't sit still very long.  The trainer said that when they have the monkey run around and grab stuff for them, it's actually easier, but making him sit on Barbossa's sholder for a few mnutes as he rambles on is difficult, because they don't want a spazzing monkey to distract from Barbossa's usually creepy or cruel words.  Somehow spraying a bit of water on his miniature vest would keep him occupied for the time being.  The monkies were rather smart.  For example, when we first find out that the monkey's name is Jack (after Captain Jack Sparrow of course), Barbossa thanks the monkey, who coincidentally smiles, as if he understand.  How cute yet evil and vicious.

"This is Jack Sparrow's doing!"

Guys, I was feeling very ambitious and motivated and felt that I needed to write another post today.  We returning to the first (and at least in my case, favorite) movie: The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl.  I thought we should focus on the couple that never actually happened: Elizabeth Swanna and James Norrington.  Norrington finds and saves Elizabeth from a desserted island that Barbossa left her on.  Elizabeth: "But we've got to save Will!"  Governor: "No.  You're safe now.  We will return to Port Royal immediately, not gallivanting after pirates."  Elizabeth: "Then we condemn him to death."  Governor: "The boy's fate is regrettable, but so is his decision to engage in piracy."  Elizabeth: "To rescue me!  To prevent anything from happening ot me!"  Jack: "If I may be so bold as to interject my professional opinion.  The Pearl was listing after the battle.  It's unlikely she'll be able make good time.  Think about it.  The Black Pearl, the last real pirate threat in the Caribbean, mate.  How can you pass that up, eh?"
Ohhh, appealing to his sense of pride and hatred towards the pirates who captured his dear Elizabeth to begin with.  James: "By remembering that I serve others, not only myself."  Well, Elizabeth seems to be begging you to take him, so I guess he would be serving her to take her to the Pearl.  Elizabeth: "Commondore, I beg you, please do this.  For me.  As a wedding gift."  That was a plot twist. She's marrying one man who she doesn't like to get him to save another man who she does like.  She is abusing James' love to her and using it for her own selfish wants.  This shocks even Weatherby Swann: "Elizabeth?  Are you accepting the commodore's proposal?"  Elizabeth then tries to make herself look all innocent and in love, when we all know it's a lie.  Elizabeth: "I am."  Jack: "A wedding.  I love weddings!  Drinks all around!"  As you can imagine, everyone gives him an annoyed look, while we are all laughing.  Jack gets the message and holds up his bound hands.  Jack: "I know.  'Clap him in irons' right?"  James: "Mr. Sparrow, (captain!) you will accompany these fine men to the helm and provide us with a bearing to Isla de Muerta.  You will then spend the rest of the voyage contemplating all meanings of the phrse 'silent as the grave'.  Do I amke myself clear?"  Oh James, always so kind and chariming.  Jack: "Inescapably clear."  Murtog and Mulroy then grab him sharply and shove him along immediately.   

James reminds me of a poor little girl who gets used by some jerkish older guy, who is Elizabeth.  He gives her want he wants just so that she loves him, even though he knows this love is fake.  Pretty darn sad.  Come on James, grow a back bone!  Stand up for yourself!  I'm not saying that he should have just left Will to die in the hands of Barbossa at the Isla de Muerta, but he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up with Elizabeth, becuase in the end she just let him down.  But he does anyway. The sail to the Isla de Muerta and make it just in the nick of time, because like Jack said, the Bearl was still recovering from its battle against the HMS Interceptor.  Norrington, Jack, and his men sail out for a better look at the place in the long boats.  Norrington: "I don't care for the situation.  Any attempt to storm the caves could turn into an ambush."  
Jack: "Not if you're the one doing the ambusing.  I go in and convince Barbossa to send his men out with their little boats, you and your mates return to the Dauntless and blast them with your little cannons.  What do you have to lose?"  James: "Nothing I'd lament being rid of."  Meaning, he'd gladly sacrafice Jack in tricking the pirates to come out.  Jack: "To be quite honest with you, there's still a risk to those aboard the Dauntless, which include the future Mrs. Commodore."  This makes James think, and in the end agrees to it.  Two soldiers push and pull Elizabeth to the Captain's cabin to keep her safe.  Groves: "Sorry, but it's for your own safety."  Elizabeth: "The commore, there's something I have to tell him!  The pirates, they're cursed!  They can't be killed!"  It's funny because it's true, and Jack probably made it a point not to revealt his.  Groves shoves her in anyway.  Groves: "Don't worry, miss.  He's informed of that.  A mermaid flopped up on deck and told him the whole story."  It's funny becaue Groves eventually does witness mermaids, with Barbossa.  Elizabeth figures it out.  Elizabeth: "THIS IS JACK SPARROW'S DOING!"  Jack's just that good, what can you say?

"We're devils and black sheep, we're really bad eggs"

Though I love the Pirates of the Caribbean there are some people who I really don't like. You can probably guess a few people on this list right now but there are also a few here that you might be surprised about. Here are a few of my least favorite people.

Weatherby Swann
This guy is one of the first people we ever get to see. He is sailing to the Caribbean from England in order to become the Governor of Port Royal. This is a pretty big deal because Port Royal is the Largest British settlement in the Caribbean. His daughter, Elizabeth, also comes to Port Royal. There she attracts the attention of Captain James Norrington. Weatherby seems to really want Elizabeth and James to get married because the day James proposes and Lizzy doesn't answer immediately he talks to the captain and convinces him she will wants to marry him. Of course as they are talking they are attacked by the Black Pearl, which ends their conversation. Later in the movie Elizabeth accepts the proposal in order to save Will who is at the Isla de Muerta. Once they reach the island Jack convinces them to lock Elizabeth in a cabin so she will stay safe. While there Governor Swann talks to her through the door. He declares a confusing statement that bores even Elizabeth, who climbs out of the Dauntless. At the very end of the movie when Elizabeth and Will proclaim they're love for each other and are having a romantic moment he asks them if that was their decision. No, they just went through all that because they don't want to be together. I mean James, who was in love with her in the first place and had been promised her heart, is okay with it but the Governor is not isn't. Some people, you know!

Sao Feng
Yes, yes I know he's a pirate lord and everything but I just find him unnecessarily intimidating. I mean let's take a look at when we first go into his bathhouse. He convinces Elizabeth to take of her clothes. (That's Jack's thing!!) Let's see, after that he pulls out Will from a well where he'd been drowning him. Not cool. The only reason he decided to fight the East India Trading company is because Will promised to give him JACK'S SHIP. When Feng gets control of the Pearl what does he do??? He punches Jack in the nose. Umm, hello you're the one who is stealing the ship that Jack died for (literally). Of course the EITC comes in and helps convince Feng to fight for the EITC. The EITC helped because they were going to take "Sao Feng's ship".
Ian Mercer

 Ian Mercer was Cutler Beckett's right hand man from the very beginning, We first met him in my personal favorite book: The Price of Freedom. He and Cutler tried to trick Jack into finding the hidden city of Zerzura. Of course Jack being Jack caught on to their scheme and kept the island coordinates to himself. This of course made Beckett and Mercer quite angry and they burned Jack new ship the Wicked Wench fortunately for Jack he has a friend in high places or rather low places, Davy Jones.  Jones saved Jack's life and his ship, which later became the Black Pearl. Mercer continued to work with Beckett as he climbed the ladder at the EITC. Eventually after being a down right jerk to just about everyone he was killed by Jones in a rather disgusting way, but we really don't need to go into the details of that again. 

Christophe-Julien de Rapièr Christophe is a low down dirty rotten scoundrel with good fashion taste. In my opinion anyways. Jack and Christophe were great friends and fellow pirates, Christophe was the older richer and wiser half of the duo, but he didn't get the girl! Jack beat Christophe in the competition for the heart of Esmeralda the daughter of a pirate lord, and quite the catch if you ask me! When Jack and Esmerelda discovered the identity of the rouge pirate they never expected Christophe to be named as one of the accomplices, and Christophe did a good job of convincing Jack he was innocent, and Jack being the sweetheart that he is hatched a plan to free his friend. Unfortunately he was a rouge. And a mean one at that. He press ganged Jack into service on his ship. Christophe also followed Jack on his voyage to Zerzura and tried to steal the stone protecting the city. But Jack stopped him of course, and eventually beat him in a duel which cost Christophe his life. 
 

"This I cannot wait to see."

It is my greatest pleasure to announce to you that on January 14, 2013 A.D., Disney announced that they will be bringing Johnny Deppback for a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, aimied to be repleased on July 10, 2015!  Up untl this point Disney admitted they were working on a plot but there was no official announcement, but now we can mark it on our calendars!  Only 903 more days!  Jerry Bruckheimer will once again produce and the screen play will be written by Jeff Nathanson.  Who's excited?  I AM!  I know you're probably thinking, "That's over two years away."  But at least there is hope.  So in honor of this most spectacular news, I feel like we should do a quick recap of ALL the past movies.
In The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow is off to recapture the Black Pearl from his mutinous first mate, Hector Barbossa.  Barbossa is after an unknown heir of William Turner and his last peice of cursed Aztec gold.  In the meantime, Will Turner and James Norringtion are after the hand of Elizabeth Swann.  Barbossa finds Elizabeth, so Will finds Jack, who finds Barbossa, who leaves Elizabeth and Jack on an island, who are then found by Norritngton, who then finds Barbossa and Will, who then lifts the curse on Barbossa, who is then dead.  With Barbossa dead, Jack gets back his ship and Will pushes Norrington out of the way and wins Elizabeth.  Obviously there's more the brilliant story than just that, but that's the overview.

Moving on to The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest: Jack Sparrow has the Black Pearl for a bery short amount of time before some bad news arrives: Jack owes his soul to Davy Jones.  Bad news also hits Will and Elizabeth when they are arrested by Lord Cutler Beckett.  Similiar to the first movie, both of their problems connect when Will goes running to Jack for help.  Once again, Jack uses Will's desperation for his advantage: he gets Will to find him the key to the chest.  Elizabeth (and later Norrington) help Jack find the chest.  To revenge the fact that Will got Elizabeth and the glory at the end of the last movie, Norringtion uses the contents in the chest to redeem himself.  Jack gets the short end of the stick when Elizabeth feeds him to Davy Jones' pet, the kraken.  Just when all hope seems to be lost, Hector Barbossa is back, but this time he intends to help Jack by getting him out of Davy Jones locker, which brings us on to the next movie.
In The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, the gang sails to the world's end (shocker), to rescue Jack and the Pearl.  Together, they all set sail to Shipwreck Cove for the meeting of the Brethren Court.  Of couse, they run into Beckett on the way there, who is threatening to kill all pirates in the Caribbean.  After a set of complex negotiations, they finally arrive at Shipwreck Cove, with three of the nine pirate lords: Jack, Barbossa, and Elizabeth.  A LOT of bickering goes by and they finally agree to fight Beckett's armada and the Flying Dutchman, which they are actually sucessful in doing, minus a few casualties including Will Turner.  Will and Elizabeth have a brief wedding but Will has to become the cpatain of the Dutchman as the only way to live.  So alas, Will gets a ship and a wife but Jack doesn't even keep the Pearl because stupid Barbossa stole it from him, again.
Jack gets back the Pearl in The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides after Barbossa looses it to the infamous pirate, Blackbeard.  Jack also gets a rather complicated love story when he is reunited with Angelica, his past love and daughter of Blackbeard.  He sails with Angelica and Blackbeard on the Queen Anne's Revenge to the Fountain of Youth.  Along the way, we see yet another love story brewing between Syrena the mermaid and Philip Swift, the missionairy.  Once they've reached the fountain with Syrena's much coveted tear and Ponce de Leon's chalices, they clash with the British Royal Navy lead by Hector Barbossa and the Spanish, lead by the Spaniard :P.  After some intense battles, Blackbeard dies so Barbossa takes his ship.  Gibbs manages to get the bottled Black Pearl and Angelica gets landed alone on an island.  Jack finally has the Pearl back but how will he get it back to its normal size???  I guess we'll see in 2015!

"That's It?"

Elizabeth is very easily frightened, or perhaps Barbossa's crew is just very frightening. They drag the governor's daughter against her will all the way to the Isla de Muerta to use her blood to lift their curse. Then, they reach the creepy island shaped like an X.  Elizabeth is freaking out in her cabin when Pintel and Ragetti come to fetch her.  Ragetti: "Let's go poppet."  They tie her up and put the last piece of gold around her neck, as they all chant "ho, ho, ho, ho."  They seem to really want to make this a super dramatic scene.  She pretty much goes without a fight into the row boat and on to the cave.  She's completely stunned when they enter the cave, filled with treasures and gold.  Koehler, one of the pirates, just shoves her along: "Move."  Such gentlemen.  Ragettie bring in some of the other chests.  Pintel: "Ten years of hoarding swag."  
Ragetti: "Now we finally get to spend it."  As usual, they creepily laugh as they poor our the contents of their chest.  Expecting to find expensive riches, they look down and see women's clothing.  Awkward.  Ragetti picks up a pink dress and examines it.  Pintel: "Once we're quit of the curse, we'll be rich men, and you can buy an eye what fits and is made of glass."  Ragettie now opens up an  umbrella (bad luck).  Ragetti: "This one does splinter something terrible."  Pintel: "Stop rubbing it!"  Just then the bo'sun comes over, judging the fact that his crew mates in ladies clothing.  PIntel in rosponse hits Ragetti with his umbrella.  Barbossa gathers everyone together.  He and Elizabeth stand above everyone next to the gigantic chest filled with the Aztec Gold.  Barbossa: "Our orment is near an end!  For ten years we've been tested and tried, and each man here has proved his mettle a hundred times over and a hundred times again!"  The whole crew cheers in agreement.  Elizabeth just freaks out there.  Ragetti: "Suffered, I have!"  Barbossa: "Punished we were, the lot of us, disproportionate to our crime!  Here it is!  The cursed treasure of Cortes himself.  Every last piece that went astray, we have returned.  Save for this!"  

Barbossa really know how to preach it.  Maybe he was a Great Awakening precher.  Barbossa: "Who among us has paid the blood sacrifice owed to the heathen gods?And whose blood yet be paid?"  The whole crew cries: "HER!"  Barbossa turns to Elizabeth now.  Barbossa: "You know the first thing I'm going to do after the curse is lifted?  Eat a whole bushel of apples!"  Barbossa is only slightly obsessed with apples.  He then has her bend over the chest as the whole crew continues to chang "Blood!  Blood!  Blood!"  How morbid.  Barbossa: "Begun by blood.  By blood undone."  He pulls the peice of gold from the necklace around her neck, and grabs her left hand.  He slits her palm and squeezes the blood on the gold.  It's a little gross, because we can probably all imagine the stinging feeling.  She gasps a bit, but then is relieved.  Elizabeth: "That's it?"  She totally thought they were going to kill her on the spot, in stead they just needed to prick her finger.  The pain in her hand might have stung, but she's probably just happy to be breathing.  
Barbossa: "Waste not."  He forces the bloody medallion out of her and and it dramatically falls into the the chest.  It turns a few times in the air for dramatic effect.  The whole crew closes their eyes dramatically for a few seconds, waiting for something to happen, but nothing very notable does.  So they all kinda just stare at themselves.  Koehler: "Did it work?"  Pintel: "I don't feel no different."  Ragetti: 'How do we tell?"  Barbossa just rolls his eyes at his stupid crew.  He pulls out his pistol and shoots pintel right in the chest.  Wow, he's willing to risk killing his crew member right after his life has begun just to test the curse?  That was kind.  Koehler: "You're not dead!"  Pintel: "No."  Then it hits him.  Pintel: "You shot me!"  The crew doesn't really care about Pintel either.  Crew: "It didn't work.  The curse is still upon us!"  Barbossa examines his knife, making sure there was actually blood.  You agrily turns back to Elizabeth: "You, maid!  Your father, what was his name?  Was your father William Turner?"  He has her by her sholders and is angrily shaking her.  Elizabeth: "No."  Barbossa: "Where's his child that sailed from England eight years ago and in whose veins flows the blood of William Turner? WHERE?"  

She just stares at him cleverly.  So he slaps her across the face, with quite a bit of force because she falls over and faints.   Except Barbossa is an idiot and he sends his Aztec godl down there with her.  What an awkward scene.  The crew thought they finally had the answer to their prayers, only to find that she conned them all.  They did this whole dramatic ceremony and speech for absolutely nothing.
