"What Shall We Die For?"

In a post not to long ago I talked about how one of my favorite scenes of the whole movie was when the Black Pearl charges into battle agains the Flying Dutchman at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.  One of them ain reasons I love this scene is the super epic music, titled "What Shall We Die For" and "I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time".  Now I'm going to discuss the cirumstances leading up to that scene.  So, we've got Beckett ,who is supported the East India Trading Company, and who wants to end piracy throughout the world once and for all.  He is attempting to accomplish this goal with the help of a pirate, Davy JOnes, (rather confusing).  Jones isn't helping him because he wants to though.  Jones is too heartless (figuratively and literally) to do such a thing.  He has to because Beckett has his heart and therefor controls the Dutchman.
Pretty scary.  So all the pirate lords throughout the world team up against him.  They agree to hold a meeting at Shipwreck Cove, where all the Brethren Court councils have alwasy been held.  Of course, if Beckett wants to eliminate piracy throughout the world, it would be a lot easier to do so if he could just get all the piarates together and kill them at the same time.  Of course, he'd need quite a fleet but it would still be a lot easier to do than hunting down every single pirate and killing them seprately.  So the meeting at the Brethren Court provides the perfect opportunity.  But like most pirate locations in the pirate world, it's hidden and hard to find unless you know where it is.  So it's actually Will Turner who leads Beckett to the secret meeting in hopes that it will somehow gain freedom for his father.
Meanwihle, back at the actually meeting, one of the pirate lords can think of a solution as to what to do about the grwoing threat.  They only become more frantically confused when they were that the EITC armada is actually outside the city waiting to destroy them  Jack and Elizabeth try to get them all to fight.  Eventually, Jack elects Elizabeth "king" of the Brethren court, so she declares war on the armada.  They brace themselves for war and sail out to face thier enemes.  However, the armada is a bit bigger than any of them expected, so they try to negotiate something instead.  They call a parlay between Bekcett, Jones, Will, Jack, Barbossa, and Elizabeth.  this parlay doens't accomplish much though accept that Jack returns with Beckett and Jones while Will goes back to the pirates with Elizabeth and Barbossa.  I'm not so sure why they dida ll that for a little trade, because in the end, King Elizaeth just resolves to fighting the huge armada anyways.
Barbossa tries one little trtick before plunging into war though.  He releases the sea goddess, Calypso, who was trapped in her earthly form as Tia Dalma.  Since it was originally Jones who told the Brethren how to trap her in the first place, Barbbossa hoped that she would help them out in defeating him.  But it doesn't look so favorabel for them, so a lot of the pirates begin to loose hope.  They want to be cowards and just surrender before any of them die.  However, Elizabeth won't let this happen.  She conducts this pretty impressive and pursuasive speech to give them the encouragement to fight. That's when "What Shall We Die For" plays.
It's so epic because all the pirates of all around the world get worked up and agree to take down this armada.  It's pretty scary: to have hundreds of pirates chanting and going after you.  So despite the odds being incredicly against them, the Black Pearl, captained by Barbossa at the moment, leads the Brethren court into battle.

"He's A Pirate"

As if running a blog about the The Pirates of the Caribbean weren't nerdy enough, I now listen to the sound track music!  It's actually loads of fun!  Play it anywhere you go and you feel like you are actually in the movies.  Right now, I only have the soundtracks to Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl and At Worlds End.  I have listened to the whole album thuroughly and I will get the other two albums, or at least some of the songs soon.  The first sound track has fifteen songs, some of which are as short as a minute and half or up to almost five minutes.  The At Worlds End soundtrack has more of a variety. While it's only thirteen songs, the shortest is a minute and a half and the longest is almost eleven minutes!  And yes, I have to admit I've listened to them all.  DOn't judge until you've actually listened to them, because they are really cool!  So you should really buy them.
I don't know how many of you actually buy your songs legally off iTunes or wherever like I do, but if you are a punk and dowload them illgally, you should really make an excpetion for this.  This stuff is really worth paying money for.  Plus, wouldn't you agree the people who make the Pirates of the Caribbean deserve it?  Just buy the whole album and you'll save money like I did!  Now, since I haven't listened to all of the music just yet, it would be rather dificult for me to tell you which songs are my favorite.  So an official favorite list will be posted later, but in the mean time I'll share with you which songs have stood out to me.  The cool thing about the soundtracks is that you hear certain parts and you can just totally tell where in the movie it comes from.  When you've seen the movies as many times as I have (which is doubtful unless you run a blog too, in which case you should totally share about with me), you can almost quote the scene!
For example, the first song of the first soundtrack is called "Fog Bound".  There is a part where you can totally just imagine Elizabeth looking through the fog and seeing the Black Pearl and finding Will's body.  Also, the next song, "The Medallion Calls" which I am actually listening to right now, there is a certain part where you just know that the gret Captain Jack Sparrow is sailing triumphantly in his little row boat.  The music is so magnetic and admittedly epic because it just sounds like Jack!  Then the tone completely shifts to a solemn yet honorable tone when Jack sails by the hanged pirates and lowers his hat in honor.  Don't beleive me? Then listen for it yourself.  Also, throughout the soundtrack you hear the super dramatic music that is usually played during some dramatic scene between Will and Elizabeth.  There is also the super classic just epically awesome music that plays during the credits.  It's kind of like the theme song.  If you were to recongize any of the music, it would be this one.  It's called "He's A Pirate".  It is one of my favorite just because it is so energetic and happy.  Whenever I hear it I think of all of Jack's totally epic sword fights.  Okay, now we are jumping to the third movie soundtrack.
It's not that I didn't like the second, but the msuic didn't strike me as as epic as the first and third.  It's starts out with "Hoist the Colors".  If you weren't aware, that's the name of the song that the prisoners who are about to be executed sing in the very opening song.  It starts out with the little kid singing and then they all join in until they hang.  It's a bit creepy because it actually has words.  The little kid on death row is singing, and you here the rattling of their chains.  Pretty intense.  Then there is "Singapore", which doens't have any words, but you can still just tell right away that they are in Singapore (even if you didn't read the name of the song).  I actually like this soundtrack more than the first.  If you've read some of my other posts regrading the Parlay scene later in the movie, you'd know about what I think of the music that plays when Jack, Will, Elizabeth, Beckett, Jones, and Barbossa all walk along the side bank: It's like rock music!  That's in the song "Parlay", which cracks me up every time.  Two songs later is "What Shall We Die For" is my all time favorite.  It's during the time when Elizabeth presents her speech to the Brethren Court and they all join together.  It is actually so epic.  You can hear all the pirates cheering in unison and you just know that they are going to kill it.  I must admit, certain parts give me chills, that's how nerdy I am.  The song after it is also pretty epic, "I Don't Think Now's the Best Time".  It's while they are fighting my favorite battle!  Now go buy the soundtracks if you haven't already and report back to here with your opinions?  Am I a nerd? Am I correct?  Am I both?

"Soneome make a note of that Man's Bravery"

How much do you know about Theodore Groves?  You actually probably know a lot more about him than you think you do.  He's a very minor character but he actually appears in all of the movies.  He's a member of the British Royal Navy and serves first under Commodore Norrington, the under Beckett, and then under Barbossa.  He's one of the few characters who are actually in all for or the movies.  A lot of the dialogue that you remember between Jack Sparrow and Navy members, Norrington and Navy members, and almost any one and Navy members involve him.  He actually has some of the most classic lines of the series.  For example, when Jack and Will first work together to take the Interceptor out of the bay, they land on the boat called the Dauntless.  However, through quite a bit of genius scheming, they find themselves upon the Interceptor, an even better boat.  Pretty impressive if I do soay so myself.
Out of anger, Norrington commands them to open fire on the ship.  Norrington: "Set topsails and clear up this mess."   Groves: "With the wind at quarter astern, we won't catch them."  Norrington: "I don't need to catch them, just get them in range of the long nines."  But Groves still doesn't understand why he would have them open fire on their own ship.  Norrington: "I'd rather see her at the bottom of the ocean, than in the hands of a pirate."  Pretty spiteful words coming out of the commodores mouth, but Groves is still obligated to obey them.  However, Jack is too quick for them and disables the rudder chain so the ship can't turn around.  Seems like that man just thinks of everything.  Earlier, Norrington had remarked after seeing Jack "trying" to set sail on the Dauntless that "That is without doubt the worst pirate I have ever seen."
Ironically enough, in the end it was actually Norrington who got tricked at Jack who sailed away happy.  Upon realizing what was happening, Groves just chuckles and says: "That's got to be the best pirate I've ever seen."  Norrington: "So it would seem."  Norrington definitely isn't about to let Jack and Will get away with this.  Now, to be fully honest, I'm not actually all that sure if Groves was in the second movie but seeing as he was in all the others, I guess you could assume that he was also in Dead Man's Chest but there wasn't much Navy action going on then and he had no real lines so I suppose I could be wrong.  Either way, he was in At Worlds End with quite a few other significant lines that you will probably know when you read them.  Jack does another one of his super genius yet impromptu escapes where he thinks of just about EVERYTHING.
After a meeting with his long time enemy, Jack needs a quick and easy way to get off of the Endeavor and onto his own ship.  He uses a cannon to blast him off one ship and onto another.  "And that was without even a single drop of rum." Beckett, like Norrington, isn't ready to let him get away that easily.  Beckett: "Signal the Dutchman to track down Sao Feng. We follow the Pearl. How soon can we have the ship ready to pursue?"  Then the entire mast of his ship just goes crashing down, as if on cue.  Beckett just bows his head in disappointment.  He should have seen that coming.  Groves: "Do you think he plans it all out, or just makes it up as he goes along?"  It's funny because pretty much the whole audience is wondering the same question: how does Jack manage to do everything so crazily yet so perfectly?  Beckett is just so upset about the ship yet Groves is analizing Jack's actions.
Groves stays on the Endeavor until it is sunk by the Pearl and the Dutchman at the end of the movie, killing Beckett.  As they are being attacked, it's Groves who is desperately screaming at Beckett for orders.  Groves: "Orders?! Orders, sir?!"  Becket just stares of blankly until finally telling them to abandon ship.  He must have made it out just in the nick of time because Groves is back in On Stranger Times.  This time, he takes orders from Barbossa.  He's Barbossa's right hand man and always seems to be around him asking for orders.  He takes Gibbs away, he defends the men who are potentially dying from a mermaid attack, and he keeps his job until his death.  He unties Barbossa when he's tied up to a palm tree at the Spanish camps and always is questioning where the captain is going, perhaps still suspicious of his old pirating ways.
He is eventually shot at the Battle for the Fountain of Youth.  His final words came as he held up the Union Jack claiming the Fountain for England.  "This land is hereby forever claimed in the glorious name of His Majesty, King George—"  Then he is shot by the Spaniard and of course we never hear about him again.  He gets a few second of glory after his death though.  Spaniard: "Someone make a note of that man's bravery."  It's funny how someone who is actually in so many scenes can go by unnoticed.  Regardless, I still really appreciate his character for truly understanding the craziness that is Captain Jack Sparrow.

"Reason's got nothing to do with it."

While Jack gets most of the hillarious lins of the serieis, all of his silly expressions were made on purpose, since he is pretty much the most outrageous characeter.  How many of you have just bursted out laughing at his lines or faces?  I know I can't be the only one.  How many of you are also aware that I love to poke fun of Elizabeth?  Well, the funny thing about her and Will is that they don't always mean to make these faces, but somehow they always do.  I've seen the movies so many times and have gone through countless photos from them.  I've pulled together a few of the most hillarious, imprompt expressions of theirs that I've ever seen.  In no particular order, here they are:
In The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Elizabeth is not shy with her expressions around Barbossa apparently.  In fact, she attempts to kill him by shoving a butter knife into his chest.  Ew.  What's even grosser is that then he pulls it out of his torso and it's dripping with blood (which to be quite honest is rather fake looking).  This just totally freaks out Elizabeth, but she hasn't really seen much of the pirating world yet.  The gore and her expressions only get worse from here!
As we just discussed, Jack is a bit loony.  Will's trying to get to the bottom of his bizaireness by asking Gibbs what happened when Jack was marooned on the island alone.  After hearing that Jack went three days with no food or drink, Will thinks he's come down to it.  Will: "So that's the reason for all the . . ."  Gibbs: "Reason's got nothing to do with it."  Will pretends to be crazy old Jack again, but even like that Will can't nearly capture the amazingness of Captain Jack Sparrow.
Isn't this rather convinient? There's a picture of both lovers looking equally as funny from The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.  Will really needs to comb his hair and is in utter shock.  Elizabeth on the other hand just looks like she's going to throw up. If I am correct, they are trying to figure out what to do about the fact that Davy Jones and the Flying Dutchman are out to get them.  Not good.
As I also stated earlier, Elizabeth is not good at masking her disgust for certain actions.  As the kraken attacks his own ship, The Black Pearl, Jack hops in a row boat and tries to make an easy escape, which flat out annoys Elizabeth.  Luck for her, Jack's compass helps him find what he really wants most, and that's to help save his friends and the Pearl, so he comes back.  This look was really in vain.
Not only is she bold with her expressions, but also her words.  This picture from The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End captures both of these!  She angrily yells at Sao Feng when they first meet.  Elizabeth: "You are Saob Feng, the pirate lord of Singapore.  You command in an age of piracy where bold captains sailr free waters.  Where waves aren't measured in feet, butas increments of fear, and those who pass the test become legend.  Would you have that erea come to an end on your watch?  The mos tnotorious pirates from around the world are uniting against our common enemy, and yet you sit here cowering in your bathwater!"  Elizabeth says it how it is.  Now, if you want to check out more photos from the movies, follow us on instagram and twitter @snippetsofjack.  We've got a ton!  And if you have some that you havne'ts een up on this website, hashtag us and we'll be sure to check it out, or comment the link to it, or email us at parsley.parsnip@gmail.com  We would love to see them!

"You have to be lost to find a place that can't be found"

I don't know about you all, but I am so tried of winter! Snow is gross and being cold is even worse! So I thought it would be fun to do a post about one of my favorite scenes from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's end. While Jack is chilling on his ship in Davy Jones' locker his crew captained by Hector Barbossa are out in the middle of the ocean half frozen to death trying to find him, Sailing on the ship they borrowed from Sao Feng. The crew apparently had no idea what they were getting into, But Barbossa did:"For certain, you have to be lost to find a place as can’t be found. Elseways, everyone would know where it was." Unfortunatly for the crew being lost isn't the most enjoyable experience. Ha just wait for what comes at the end of there little journey!
Tia Dalma who was also along for the ride, tried to explain to he crew that Jack had been taken to a place no one would want to go:"Jack Sparrow is taken, body and soul, to a place not of death, but punishment. The worst fate a person can bring upon himself...stretching on forever. That's what awaits at Davy Jones' Locker." Sounds like a real fun place eh? You can always trust Davy Jones to show a guy a good time! Getting to the locker is simple enough, just fly down a 57830837620 (just a guess! :) ) waterfall and you're there. Getting out is the hard part!
While Will poors over the charts he bartered from Sao Feng another story for another post) Barbossa and Gibbs try to explain the rather odd myth to Pintel (my personal favorite half of the silly pirates) Pintel: "Ever gazed upon the green flash, Master Gibbs?"Gibbs: "I reckon I seen my fair share. Happens on rare occasion. The last glimpse of sunset, a green flash shoots up into the sky. Some go their whole lives without ever seeing it. Some claim to have seen it who ain't. And some say—"Barbossa:"It signals when a soul comes back to this world from the dead."   Well it sounds like a great Instagram photo opportunity to me! The crew still doesn't know where exactly they're heading yet,but '
Elizabeth is grumpy as usual anyways. She and Will share a less then touching moment which causes poor Will to believe she is in love with Jack, which honestly isn't his fault she did kiss him!  Soon after the couples little tiff the boat starts really rolling and the crew begins to realize whats about to happen, and Elizabeth's bossy side comes out.
She orders the crew to turn the ship around, but they are wayyyy  to close to the drop to turn around now, and the ship plummets over the waterfall. Hopefully it was the right waterfall.....

"Perhaps his usefulness has run its course."

I thought it would be nice to stick with the theme of short, evil, British merchants, which means this will be another post about Cutler Beckett.  This time, he is a Lord, seeking more power and wealth in the company, like we previously described in our last post.  So he has the heart of Davy Jones, which to him means taht he controls the seas.  Now, considering the oceans make up like 3/4 of the earth, I guess you could say he almost has control of the whole world.  Except, Davy Jones' hasn't quite gotten used to taking orders yet.  Beckett finds this out when he comes upon a ship, completely destroyed and set on fire.
Beckett: "Bloody hell.  There's nothing left."  Mercer: "Jones is a loose cannon, sir."  Beckett: "Fetch the chest."  Beckett has such a cold voice, it feels like everything he says is a cool death threat.  Mercer: "And the governor?"  Mercer is concerned about Elizabeth's father, Governor Weatherby Swann.  Not concerned like worried about him, but concerned as him he may ask too many questions and ruin the plan.  Mercer: 'He's been asking questions about the heart."  Beckett: "Does he know?"  Know that you plan to use it to end piracy once and for all?  It's rather funny that the pirate Beckett hates the most (Christophe) was killed by Jack Sparrow, who he also hates.  I wonder if Jack and Beckett know that they even have this mutual enemy.  Probably could have saved some conflict.  Mercer gives him some look that doesn't really communicate anything to me, but I guess Beckett got the message.  Beckett: 'Then perhaps his usefulness has run its course."  Key dramatic and menacing organ music.  Next thing you see is Governor Swann in a long boat next to Mercer (with his black gloves) and a bunch of other men.  There is debris on fire all around them, a little gift from Jones.
The Governor has cloth above his mouth to stop from breathing in the smoke.  It makes me very sad to think about what they are going to do to him.  Then we find that its actually Davy Jones demonstrating hims musical abilities, as he is playing the organ with is tentacles, which is both gross and cool.  There is also music coming from the little heart music box that he and Calypso both have.  He holds it up and stares into it sadly, clearly yearning for the romance he and the sea goddess used to have.  The music stops and he actually sheds a tear!  He captures this with his tentacle and stares at it.  Suddenly he is reminded that his heart broken, lonely, and rejected, which of course makes him really mad at the woman who did it to him: Calypso.  He just shakes violently in anger, kinda creepy.  His little pity session is interrupted.  Beckett has ordered all his men onto the Flying Dutchman, including the always loved, James Norrington and the two idiots Murttog and Mullroy.  Norrington: "Steady men."  Davy Jones doesn't really like such a distraction on his ship.  Some men then bring out the chest with the heart in it.  Jones: "Go.  All of you.  And take that infernal thing with you.  I will not have it on my ship!"
That's weird because the infernal thing is your heart, which used to be in your chest, but now you don't even want it on your boat.  Quite strange.  Beckett then makes his appearance.  Beckett: 'Oh, I"m sorry to hear that . . . because I will.  Because it seems to be the only way to ensure that this ship do as directed by the company.  We need prisoners to interrogate, which tends to work best when they're alive."  Governor Swann comes out next.  Jones: "The Dutchman sails as its captain commands." Beckett:  "And its captain is to sail as commanded.  I would have thought you'd learned that when I ordered you to kill your pet.  This is no longer your world, Jones.  The immaterial has become . . . immaterial,"  Please oh please oh please tell me that one of you my many readers know what this means!
Because I honestly can't figure it out.  This and the "Currency is the currency of the realm" makes no sense!  Oi.  So they set up the heart in Jones' organ room surrounded by armed soldiers.  Beckett just thought he'd rub it in, typical Beckett.  He's some what of a bully.  I wonder if he knows that Jones also helped convict Christophe of rouge piracy.  It's a small word, eh?

"We're devils and black sheep, we're really bad eggs"

Though I love the Pirates of the Caribbean there are some people who I really don't like. You can probably guess a few people on this list right now but there are also a few here that you might be surprised about. Here are a few of my least favorite people.
Weatherby Swann
This guy is one of the first people we ever get to see. He is sailing to the Caribbean from England in order to become the Governor of Port Royal. This is a pretty big deal because Port Royal is the Largest British settlement in the Caribbean. His daughter, Elizabeth, also comes to Port Royal. There she attracts the attention of Captain James Norrington. Weatherby seems to really want Elizabeth and James to get married because the day James proposes and Lizzy doesn't answer immediately he talks to the captain and convinces him she will wants to marry him. Of course as they are talking they are attacked by the Black Pearl, which ends their conversation. Later in the movie Elizabeth accepts the proposal in order to save Will who is at the Isla de Muerta. Once they reach the island Jack convinces them to lock Elizabeth in a cabin so she will stay safe. While there Governor Swann talks to her through the door. He declares a confusing statement that bores even Elizabeth, who climbs out of the Dauntless. At the very end of the movie when Elizabeth and Will proclaim they're love for each other and are having a romantic moment he asks them if that was their decision. No, they just went through all that because they don't want to be together. I mean James, who was in love with her in the first place and had been promised her heart, is okay with it but the Governor is not isn't. Some people, you know!
Sao Feng
Yes, yes I know he's a pirate lord and everything but I just find him unnecessarily intimidating. I mean let's take a look at when we first go into his bathhouse. He convinces Elizabeth to take of her clothes. (That's Jack's thing!!) Let's see, after that he pulls out Will from a well where he'd been drowning him. Not cool. The only reason he decided to fight the East India Trading company is because Will promised to give him JACK'S SHIP. When Feng gets control of the Pearl what does he do??? He punches Jack in the nose. Umm, hello you're the one who is stealing the ship that Jack died for (literally). Of course the EITC comes in and helps convince Feng to fight for the EITC. The EITC helped because they were going to take "Sao Feng's ship".
Ian Mercer
Ian Mercer was Cutler Beckett's right hand man from the very beginning, We first met him in my personal favorite book: The Price of Freedom. He and Cutler tried to trick Jack into finding the hidden city of Zerzura. Of course Jack being Jack caught on to their scheme and kept the island coordinates to himself. This of course made Beckett and Mercer quite angry and they burned Jack new ship the Wicked Wench fortunately for Jack he has a friend in high places or rather low places, Davy Jones.  Jones saved Jack's life and his ship, which later became the Black Pearl. Mercer continued to work with Beckett as he climbed the ladder at the EITC. Eventually after being a down right jerk to just about everyone he was killed by Jones in a rather disgusting way, but we really don't need to go into the details of that again.
Christophe-Julien de Rapièr Christophe is a low down dirty rotten scoundrel with good fashion taste. In my opinion anyways. Jack and Christophe were great friends and fellow pirates, Christophe was the older richer and wiser half of the duo, but he didn't get the girl! Jack beat Christophe in the competition for the heart of Esmeralda the daughter of a pirate lord, and quite the catch if you ask me! When Jack and Esmerelda discovered the identity of the rouge pirate they never expected Christophe to be named as one of the accomplices, and Christophe did a good job of convincing Jack he was innocent, and Jack being the sweetheart that he is hatched a plan to free his friend. Unfortunately he was a rouge. And a mean one at that. He press ganged Jack into service on his ship. Christophe also followed Jack on his voyage to Zerzura and tried to steal the stone protecting the city. But Jack stopped him of course, and eventually beat him in a duel which cost Christophe his life.

"This I cannot wait to see."

It is my greatest pleasure to announce to you that on January 14, 2013 A.D., Disney announced that they will be bringing Johnny Deppback for a fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, aimied to be repleased on July 10, 2015!  Up untl this point Disney admitted they were working on a plot but there was no official announcement, but now we can mark it on our calendars!  Only 903 more days!  Jerry Bruckheimer will once again produce and the screen play will be written by Jeff Nathanson.  Who's excited?  I AM!  I know you're probably thinking, "That's over two years away."  But at least there is hope.  So in honor of this most spectacular news, I feel like we should do a quick recap of ALL the past movies.
In The Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow is off to recapture the Black Pearl from his mutinous first mate, Hector Barbossa.  Barbossa is after an unknown heir of William Turner and his last peice of cursed Aztec gold.  In the meantime, Will Turner and James Norringtion are after the hand of Elizabeth Swann.  Barbossa finds Elizabeth, so Will finds Jack, who finds Barbossa, who leaves Elizabeth and Jack on an island, who are then found by Norritngton, who then finds Barbossa and Will, who then lifts the curse on Barbossa, who is then dead.  With Barbossa dead, Jack gets back his ship and Will pushes Norrington out of the way and wins Elizabeth.  Obviously there's more the brilliant story than just that, but that's the overview.
Moving on to The Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest: Jack Sparrow has the Black Pearl for a bery short amount of time before some bad news arrives: Jack owes his soul to Davy Jones.  Bad news also hits Will and Elizabeth when they are arrested by Lord Cutler Beckett.  Similiar to the first movie, both of their problems connect when Will goes running to Jack for help.  Once again, Jack uses Will's desperation for his advantage: he gets Will to find him the key to the chest.  Elizabeth (and later Norrington) help Jack find the chest.  To revenge the fact that Will got Elizabeth and the glory at the end of the last movie, Norringtion uses the contents in the chest to redeem himself.  Jack gets the short end of the stick when Elizabeth feeds him to Davy Jones' pet, the kraken.  Just when all hope seems to be lost, Hector Barbossa is back, but this time he intends to help Jack by getting him out of Davy Jones locker, which brings us on to the next movie.
In The Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, the gang sails to the world's end (shocker), to rescue Jack and the Pearl.  Together, they all set sail to Shipwreck Cove for the meeting of the Brethren Court.  Of couse, they run into Beckett on the way there, who is threatening to kill all pirates in the Caribbean.  After a set of complex negotiations, they finally arrive at Shipwreck Cove, with three of the nine pirate lords: Jack, Barbossa, and Elizabeth.  A LOT of bickering goes by and they finally agree to fight Beckett's armada and the Flying Dutchman, which they are actually sucessful in doing, minus a few casualties including Will Turner.  Will and Elizabeth have a brief wedding but Will has to become the cpatain of the Dutchman as the only way to live.  So alas, Will gets a ship and a wife but Jack doesn't even keep the Pearl because stupid Barbossa stole it from him, again.
Jack gets back the Pearl in The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides after Barbossa looses it to the infamous pirate, Blackbeard.  Jack also gets a rather complicated love story when he is reunited with Angelica, his past love and daughter of Blackbeard.  He sails with Angelica and Blackbeard on the Queen Anne's Revenge to the Fountain of Youth.  Along the way, we see yet another love story brewing between Syrena the mermaid and Philip Swift, the missionairy.  Once they've reached the fountain with Syrena's much coveted tear and Ponce de Leon's chalices, they clash with the British Royal Navy lead by Hector Barbossa and the Spanish, lead by the Spaniard :P.  After some intense battles, Blackbeard dies so Barbossa takes his ship.  Gibbs manages to get the bottled Black Pearl and Angelica gets landed alone on an island.  Jack finally has the Pearl back but how will he get it back to its normal size???  I guess we'll see in 2015!

"More Acquaintance Than Friend"

Happy last day of the year!  This past year has been great for our blog!  We've received more views and comments as the year continues.  This next year, we'll try to post for consistently and hopefully you will try to spread the word of our website!  Now, we would like to make his post all about the antagonists of the series.  Hopefully their New Years Resolutions will  help Jack have an easier time dealing with them because they are sorry.  However not all of the villains are equally liked by me. These are my top five favorite.
5) Blackbeard
Also known as Edward Teach, Blackbeard is pretty evil but he's not a very interesting villain.  He's captain of the Queen Anne's Revenge but truly doesn't do very much.  In fact, his crew doesn't even think he exists for a while.  Angelica, his daughter and first mate, runs most of the business on the ship.  And then we find out that he actually is a character with a pretty epic sword.  So he kills some people and insists Jack takes him to the Fountain of Youth.  Things really get interesting when we learn Blackbeard has shrunk and bottled the Black Pearl.  It's no surprise that Jack is ready to do anything to gain back his ship, and that annoying monkey.  So now it's up to Jack to defeat Blackbeard and get back the Pearl.
4)Ian Mercer
This fellow has been in two movies and the Price Of Freedom. He is describes by A.C. Crisp in as a man who could kill a man with out hesitation. Wonderful I know. He is Scottish and heavily accented. He works as a "operative" for Cutler Beckett. This job eventually gets him killed. Killed by another person on this list. A very gross death including tentacles getting stuck up his nose, mouth, and eyes. 3)Davy Jones
I told you Mercer's killer was on this list too! And here he is.  Like Mercer, Davy Jones for a while had to do what Cutler Beckett told him to, including tracking down the pirates at Shipwreck Cove and attacking them.  It's during this attack that Davy Jones decides that he's  tired of Cutler Beckett telling him what to do.  So he disgustingly killed Mercer and tries to track down his heart.  Beckett does eventually fail, but so does Jones when Will Turner stabs his heart sending him to his watery grave.
2) Hector Barbossa
Barbossa switches off throughout the series between being a helping and harming the protagonist (Jack).  However, during the first movie he is definitely a villain.  First of all, he pretty much took over Jack's beloved ship, which is never appreciated.  He also wants to kill Jack, Elizabeth, Will, and Norrington, and pretty much everybody else.  He's not even very nice to his own crew members.  To see if the curse in them is lifted, Barbossa shoots Pintel to see if he dies.  But I love how Barbossa seems just to ramble on and on in his super piratey talk.  He's one of the funniest characters and the only reason he's not on the first on this list is because he's not a villain all the time.  Speaking of which, let's continue on to first place.
1) Cutler BeckettI hope by this point you've taken my advice and read The Price of Freedom, because Beckett's childhood history is shared in the book.  He's also a total jerk in the book.  He brands Jack with the 'P' on his wrist and then tries to take down the Wicked Wench, even though it's his own ship!  Then, during Dead Man's Chest, he poses a menacing threat on Jack, Will, and Elizabeth.  This threat continues into the second movie as he desperately tries to completely strike pirates off the face of the earth.  You can tell that he's not a big fan of pirates, making him the ultimate villain during the series.

"It's always belonged to you"

As you could imagine, once the Brethren Court defeated the E.I.T.C. armada, there was a lot of celebration and hat throwing. Once all the partying is over, the Dutchman and the Pearl sail away together.  Will, the new captain of the Dutchman stands at the quarter deck and stars across the sea.  His father comes over to see why he's being so pensive.
Bootstrap: "Orders sir."  Will: "You're no longer bound to the Dutchman.  You're free."  But Will's not :(  Bootstrap: "Aye.  That's a fine thing but by my reckoning I still have a debt that has to be paid, if you'll have me."  Make up for all those years you lost with your son, since you could be on the same ship for all eternity.  Will just smiles a bit.  Will: "On the wheel then, Mr. Turner."  Bootstrap: "Aye, Captain."  Will returns to staring at Elizabeth on the Pearl.  Bootstrap catches on.  Bootstrap: "This ship has a purpose again and where we are bound she cannot come.  One day ashore, ten years at sea.  It's a steep price for what has been done.  Will: Depends on the one day." Um, awkward much?  Ok, let's just skip over that.  Meanwhile, back on the Pearl Elizabeth finally turns away from staring at Will.  Gibbs comes over with good news.
Gibbs: "You're chariot awaits, your highness."  He beckons towards a little rowboat being lowered.  Everyone is being so nice to her, probably because they feel bad she isn't having the dream marriage she planned on.  She still doesn't seem too happy though.  Gibbs: "The oars are inside."  He's a bit more sympathetic.  She walks down to where the rest of the crew is gathered to say good bye for some reason.  Barbossa starts off the mini conference.  Barbossa: "Mrs. Turner . . ."  It's awkward because Elizabeth told Barbossa that her last name was Turner when they first met, but now her last name actually is Turner!  How ironic.  Those were their parting words.  Pintel and Ragetti bow their heads next.  Pintel: "Good bye, poppet."  She just walks on by Murtog and Mullroy.  Elizabeth: "Jack, it would never have worked out between us."  Jack just smirks, in his super hot fashion as always.  Jack: "Keep telling yourself that, darling."  She smiles and reaches in for a hug.  Jack has other plans. He quickly blocks her.  Jack: "Once is quite enough."  Can I get some ice for that burn?  She just steps back embarrassed.  Elizabeth: "Thank you." With that, she gets into her boat and from what we know, they never see each other again.  So the couple arrives on shore of a little island together.
They make their good byes, fight over boots, kiss a little until Will ruins the fun.  Will: "It's nearly sunset."  He starts to walk off without saying anything else.  He gets his special chest with the newly replaced heart.  Will: "It's always belonged to you."  Awwwwwww.  Sorry, but it is really sweet how he loved her since they were kids.  He picks up the chest and turns to her.  Will: "Will you keep it safe."  You can tell she's trying not to cry.  Elizabeth: "Yes.  Yes."  They lead in, but Will turns to leave, She gets slightly mad and runs after him.  Elizabeth: "WILL!"  And they have one last super romantic and sweet kiss on the beach as the tide comes up.  Once they are done with their long kiss, Will finishes: "Keep a weather eye on the horizon."  And that's that.  Ten years from that point she can look out onto the horizon for a green flash, and they'll meet again.

"Never Actually Been One For Tradition"

The newly wed Mr. and Mrs. Will Turner find their hopes tragically crushed when Davy Jones evilly stabs Will's heart.  All hopes of them living happily ever after would have been diminished if it were not for Captain Jack Sparrow, of course.  Jack lets Will stab Jone's heart just in time, making Will the almost immortal captian of the Flying Dutchman.  As the crew comes out to carve out his heart, Elizabeth starts to feak out, not really understading what is happening.  Elizabeth: "Don't leave me.  Don't.  No!  U won't leave you."  So Jack picks her up and polls her off of Will, knowing that she won't be able to handle the sight over her husband's chest being cut open.  Ew.  Bootstrap Bill: "The Dutchman must have a captain."  As always, dramatic music is playing in the background.  Jack has Elizabeth just in time before Bootstrap makes the incision.  He ties her ound his waste with some rope and finds some creative way to get them off the cursed ship (no surprise there).
Jack: "Hold on!"  He makes a little parachute out of the mast and uses a gun to shoot them off the deck.  Jack the monkey realizes just in time to grab onto some rope hanging off of their parachute.  The crazy wind storm pushes them away from the ship.  Elizabeth has regained her sanity long enough to hold onto Jack's waist and watch the Dutchman and its new captain fall into the Maelstrom.  The wind drops them off in the water, not far from the Black Pearl and the threesome are helped back onto the ship.  Gibbs: "Thank goodness, Jack.  The armada's still out there.  The Endeavor's coming up hard to starboard, and I think it's time we embrace that oldest and noblest of pirate traditions."  There it is again, after all that they still want to run away.  On the bright side, the storm has cleared up!  (Get it, bright?)  Jack, however, has better plans.  He's not ready to give up this fight he just started.  Jack: "Never actually been one for tradition."
He walks over the side and stares out at the EITC armada, but he never looses faith in himself. Now that they've got the Dutchman on their side, what could go wrong?  Jack: "Close haul her.  Luff the sails and lay her in irons."  Barbossa: "Bely that, or we'll be a sitting duck."  And the arguing continues.  Jack: "Belay that 'belay that.'"  Gibbs keeps trying to talk some reason into Jack (nice try, but it can't work), but Gibbs can barely get more than a word out before Jack screams: "BELAY.  BELAY!"  Gibbs: 'The Endeav . . ."  Jack: "Stow.  Shut it!"  Discussion closed.  Jack runs over to the steering wheel.  Meanwhile, on the Endeavor, Groves is rather shocked to see through hid telescope that the pirates are still just sitting there.  Groves: "What are they waiting for?"  Beckett: "He expects us to honor our agreement."  Groves just gives him a crazy look and they pull out their cannons.  Beckett: "It's nothing personal, Jack.  It's just good business."  So now Beckett is all smug because he thinks he's going to end piracey once and for all.  Or so it seemed.

Because then out of the ocean arises the Flying Dutchman!  Now, Beckett is still really oblivious and doesn't know about the death of Jones.  Beckett: "Ah, she survived."  The three ships, the Endeavor, the Pearl, and the Dutchman, all begin to sail towards eacother.  Beckett thinks that Jones on the Dutchman will be helping him take down the Pearl.  This must be a rather disappointing day for Beckett.  Because lo' and behold the crew of the Dutchman has lost it's curse and their new captain, Will Turner, is standing all handsomely at the wheel shouting orders.  Will: "Ready on the guns."  Crew: "Guns ready."  This totally pumps Jack and Elizabeht up.  Jack: "Full canvas."  And this pumps the rest of the crew up, even Barbossa.  Barbossa: "Aye, full canvas."  The Pearl and the Dutchman set their course parallel to eachother, not against eacother like Beckett had expected.  This worries Beckett a bit as his ship is suddenly almost right inbetweeen the two ships.  That's when it hits him, he's not surviving this thight.  Groves: "Orders, sir.  SIR!"
Beckett goes through one of his little episodes where he totally panics and can't think.  He just stands their numbly without a clue of what to do becasue now they're surrounded.  This is just too easy.  Gibbs: "Cap'n." Jack: "Fire."  Gibbs: "Fire!"  Oh here we go again.  Will: "Fire!"  Barbossa: "Fire!"  Elizabeth: "Fire, all!"  She just has to be different.  Now, most ships don't survive being blown away on both sides, so Groves is totally freaking out: "ORDERS? ORDERS SIR?"  Poor Groves, he has to take commands from a coward.  More soldiers are freaking out: "Sir, what do you command?"  Beckett finally speaks: "It's just . . . good business."  Groves finds Beckett useles now.  Groves: "Abandon ship!"  So as all his men fly off the railing, Beckett walks around his blown up deck right into his epic death in which he dies on an EITC flag.  How appropriate.
